Under Wraps

In the infamous words of Jon Snow, “Winter is coming.” Well, it’s kind of coming and going here in Delhi, but okay, stay with me. With the arrival of cooler temperatures comes the time to pile on clothes and master the art of winter layering (without looking like an urban Eskimo).

Layering serves two purposes; one is, of course, that it keeps you warm in the cold and, two, it’s a great way to elevate your look with more style.

It seems that it’s something a lot of guys struggle to wrap their heads around. Your average guy on the street typically has one visible layer: a shirt and trousers. Maybe a jacket if he’s dressing up (a second layer), and perhaps a coat or a scarf if it’s cold (a third layer).

Actually, it’s really easy. It’s just about knowing what textures to work with, what colours and, what order in which to layer everything! For me though, layering works even without all these rules. Textures, patterns, prints, fabrics and lengths, these are 5 dimensions you can experiment with in each layer, and don’t hold back.

The best part about layering for me is that it gives me liberty to use pieces from my Summer wardrobe and incorporate them in my Winter wardrobe too! Win-win eh? I even used pieces from my casual summer Indian-Wear this time and it worked!

Other accents that add some more visual variety to a layered outfit include everything from beanies, hats, scarves/shawls, snoods, gloves and jewelry. Don’t go too heavy on these if you already have a few visible layers and a lot of competing colours or patterns, but do use them to pump up a fairly monochromatic outfit.

Here’s how I experimented with layering this winter.

RipCycled

Ripped, Torn, Worn, Distressed, Beaten, Burnt, Slaughtered and what not. Thanks to 70’s punk rock and 80’s grunge, these jeans have made a revival over and over the years since.

Having scouted pretty much every store in Delhi for the perfect pair, I soon began to realise ‘Hey, I could do this myself?!’

So I grabbed a scissor and some secret weapons (that shall remain secret unless you bribe me), unleashed my inner vandal and ripped my old faithful black jeans apart. Therapy indeed! Never have I had a better success at a DIY project before. Saved myself big bucks on this one.

Once you own a pair of these jeans, you’ll want to wear them everyday. I kid not! They go with everything. Style them up or style them down, these jeans will be your new best friend. I styled mine with a basic Longline White T-shirt, another staple in my wardrobe this year, and to add colour, a Red Textured-Leather Jacket for the winter.

Yeah I know I’m a little late on this trend when I’m sure you all know it hit hard in 2015 itself. But I have a feeling it’s here to stay. Recycle, or like I say, RipCycle your old wardrobe (jeans, t-shirts, sweaters, hoodies, jackets). You will definitely be seeing a lot more of this trend on my blog this year.

All Black & White

“The modern artist is working and expressing an inner world, expressing the energy, the motion, and other inner forces.”  ~ Jackson Pollock

I’m a man of a few words. And possibly, a man of even fewer colours; Black and White being the top contenders of course.

So, who doesn’t love black and white? Right?

I’d say I’m obsessed with this classic colour combination, but I look for ways to reinvent the look each time.

This paint splatter T-shirt from Zara sort of reminds me of the notorious artist Jackson Pollock’s abstract drip paintings; Part of why I picked it up since I’ve always admired his unconventional methods.

Jeans aren’t my absolute favourite. I can however, live in joggers. This particular pair, from Zara as well, caught my eye and I picked it up instantly to go with the splatter T-shirt. It comes with a detachable faux tie-waist which can be zipped on and off.

Funnily, the shoes are from Zara too! Totally unplanned, I swear! The jewellery, of course, like most of my collection, is bits and pieces I’ve thrifted from Delhi, Pune and Mumbai streets.

So here’s my interpretation of a high-street monochromatic look.

Robe Life

IMG_0775

The past month for me has been mostly about Music; at Gigs, Concerts, Events and of course at Weddings. Well, most of the winter season is anyway.

Having heard so much about NH7 Weekender for the past few years, I had to check it out for myself this year! Discovering new music and new artists is always fun. And Weekender certainly did not disappoint! Happy (drunk) people spreading happy vibes all day long 🙂 The “happiest music festival” indeed!

So here’s what I wore. Kept the base muted in a black T-shirt with a patchwork lace-skull and my basic black skinnies, so the winner of the outfit could stand out; a colourful Robe which was gifted to me by the coolest couple ever (Andrew & Adrienne; they travel the world and pick up these amazing fabrics wherever they go, and turn them into these awesome Robes).

The wait is over.

Hello World!

The wait is over. My wait. What seemed like never-ending procrastination and countless nights that have gone into planning this blog and trying to figure out WordPress and almost always giving up, has finally taken shape today!

So here’s my blog; where I, BeardsEyeView, will bring to you my personal everyday style and my (unhealthy) obsession with beards, scattered with other curated randomness of course.

Stay tuned for my first Style post this weekend!

Until then, here’s what’s keeping me from sh!tting my pants while I frantically put it together!

Cheers guys!
